COVID-proofing Your House

Worried man wearing a respiratory mask, holding the Coronavirus Covid-19 sign

Social distancing, wearing masks, disinfecting, and washing hands are top priorities at this time of pandemic. Still, most people neglect to also apply precautionary measures inside the house to make it a COVID-free sanctuary. Though not everyone can afford an untimely renovation or upgrade, some go the extra mile to make the necessary safety and hygiene changes.

Here are some ideas on what to install in your home and lessen the risk of contact with germs or COVID-19.

Smart faucets

The impression about touchless faucets is that it’s too fancy and expensive. It’s not! It is cost-effective and lasts longer than our regular faucets.

Stories.hansa.com says, “Many smart faucets for the home are powered by lithium batteries that fit in a small case under the sink and last 3 to 5 years. The homeowner can easily replace them without professional assistance.” They added, “With its multifunctionality, increased hygiene and water-saving features, the sensor faucet is quickly becoming the preferred option for many consumers as they renovate their homes and replace existing fixtures.”

No handles mean less touching and a lesser risk of transferring germs.

Bidet it is!

There has been hoarding and shortage of toilet paper supplies since the pandemic onset. Covid19 has opened every resident’s mind to opt into other options and embrace the norm of almost everything “hands-free,” and that includes using the toilet! Bidet has promised a cleaner bottom, comfortable, and hands-free experience.

Bidet.org says, “Bidets Provide Better Personal Hygiene and Cleaning. After you use the bathroom, dry toilet paper still leaves you unclean, and some residue usually remains on your skin. A bidet provides water that removes any residue left on your skin, and you will feel incredibly clean and refreshed instead of feeling like you are still dirty in some way.

Plus, you’re helping the environment by skipping the use of tons of toilet paper every day hence a great contribution to waste reduction.

Touchless Lights

Touchless light can restrict the virus’s spread by putting away those fingers to these little infection points. Just imagine how many times a person touches the light switch every day, not only at home but also in the office.

Robert Hemmerdinger of GBD Magazine on his article Why Touchless Technology is Key in a Post-COVID World,” said, “A study done by the Carleton Institute for Civil Engineering shows that a light switch is touched once every two hours. A wall thermostat is touched once every 35 hours. These numbers are from systems that employ conventional building automation. Neither the CDC or the WHO have determined exactly how long COVID-19 can exist on an inanimate surface, but their most conservative estimates are far beyond those timeframes.’”

He also added, If we’re not going to be able to filter additional aerosols from the air, what can we do to make our offices, schools, and hospitals safer?

The answer may come from the mechanical side of construction. The controls industry is working on the reality of a touchless office, where contact with commonly used objects in a workplace facility is reduced or eliminated entirely.”

The light switch is considered one of the dirtiest surfaces, and therefore keeping our hands away from it is the best option, especially at this pandemic.

Automatic soap dispensers

Hand washing is on the top of the list in fighting this dreadful virus, and soap plays a vital role. As we know, bathroom surfaces, including soap dispensers, are a favorite abode of microorganisms; the lesser you touch these things, the more you restrict yourself from any infection. These automatic soap dispensers are not just beneficial, and they are also fun to use!

Touch-less technology can be installed in our home without cutting a big chunk out of our budget. You may get them online or at any local store for $20 or maybe less!

PRNewswire, in its news release “The “Automatic Soap Dispenser Market – Global Outlook and Forecast 2020-2025,” says, “ The global automatic soap dispenser products have witnessed a significant rise in demand over the last few years. This can majorly be attributed to the growing trend of smart restroom technology.
