Low hanging light bulbs in the home

If you just moved into a small apartment and it looks tiny. The secret here is light. Go light up!

The brighter it is, the bigger it looks. For a small space, your enemy is the dark corners. To make your place look more significant, light up all dark corners for excellent illumination.

Also, paint walls with lighter or neutral colors to go with the brightness.

Arch2o.com suggests, “Light the inside of your shelves and wardrobes. The dark corners are not merely found at the intersections of walls. They can be seen inside wardrobes and bookcases as well as below shelves and kitchen cabinets. So, one can use LED strips to light the inside of a wardrobe, or adjust the angles of a tiny track light to artistically illuminate bookshelves.”

Mirrors

Hang wide mirrors! It’s an old trick. It reflects the light and makes us think that the house is room is spacious than it is.

Apartmenttherapy.com recommends, Floor length mirrors are great ways to make any space feel taller. Their long shape draws the eye up and carrying it around the room, making any space feel lighter and brighter. Place them behind a grouping of furniture or out on their own”

They also added, “Layer Them Up: Why have just one mirror when you can have several? By making an entire wall mirrored and then adding smaller, defined mirrors on top, not only are you creating a larger more open-feeling space, but you’ll also be giving depth to the space without weighing things down.”

Put plants everywhere!

These green wonders clean the air and give your room a warm and relaxing atmosphere. It also makes to room lively and colorful. Putting a tall plant which is now becoming trendy, creates the illusion of height and tall room.

JOANNA of Jojotastic published How to Decorate with Large Indoor Plants in a Small Space and says, “I feel like smaller homes have a tendency to have weird, awkward corners and nooks… but that’s just an opportunity to add more plants! A large houseplant can help anchor the room, create a focal point, and add texture. Don’t be afraid to splurge on a statement-making garden pot and fill it with a leafy, tall beauty. Then stick it in that awkward corner. Voila! Instantly, your space feels balanced and way less weird.”

Rugs

Rug trick helps too! You may want one big area rug to make a room look larger instead of using many small rugs. You can put it in the middle of the receiving area or within feet of the walls.

Lilla Rugs says, “Sounds kind of counterintuitive but use a large rug, or even an oversized rug, that basically fills the entire room, minus a small border, extending beyond all of the furniture. This will draw the eye wider across the full width and length of the room, making it appear bigger than it really is. Using a rug that is too small for space will simply accentuate the lack of square footage.”

Higher Curtains

Hang your curtains high and vertical. Close to the ceiling, if possible, this gives the room a spacious look. Pick a lightweight curtains with vertical stripes rather than big prints as it dominates the room and making it feel clumpy.

Also, using long curtain rods help. It helps make the window look a lot bigger.

Colleen B of Experthometips advised, “If your goal is to make your space look bigger, you’ll want to avoid heavy fabrics. While these work in spacious rooms, thick curtains will absorb light and weigh the room down, making it appear smaller.

Choose lightweight material around your living room, such as light linen curtains to help the room feel airy.”
